The Surviving Battle

For the first time in their lives people were shocked after a month of rain, ashes and polluted air by the volcano Kelud. People were trying to survive while saving their homes and trying not to get infected by the polluted air of ashes. Everyone tried to save their lives between two major things happening. People were slowly beginning to pass away while the rain and the volcano started throwing more and more ash. More than 100 birds died because of what is happening.

This time it happened, a volcano called Kelud and a month of rain was affecting the village called Moorland, England  at the same time. The volcano has killed 2 people and 100,000 others needed to be evacuated. Last month people needed to leave everything they had because of what happened in their town without knowing if they will be back to their flooded and ash covered homes. People fought to survive, they also were very worried that they will be stuck in their homes forever. After everything has happened and everyone was evacuated if it keeps goings like these people will not be able to reconstruct the city.

Meanwhile everything was covered with ash, The homes, planes, roads, bridges, parks and many more. Every one around the planet talked about it in their own language. People were very worried when evacuating because almost all of the airports were closed and every minute and second a plane was leaving to a different destination. It could have led to jet engine problems. More than 1,000 birds have died and landed right on the beach with other animals.

The battle between two great hockey countries for gold

The battle between two great hockey countries for gold

An amazing fight for gold with Sweden v.s Canada ended this years Olympics which took place in Sochi, Russia. It wasn't a surprise that these two countries met at the finals but it was a surprise that at the end Sweden didn't fight as much as expected. Both teams played very well during the first games of the tournament so the audience had high expectations for the final.
Canada made it to the final by defeating U.S. with a minimal score of 1-0. In the other semi final Sweden managed to win with a comeback against Finland with a score of 2-1. Hockey fans know about a rivalry between these two Scandinavian countries so as expected this match was very tight. Many fans were waiting to see a final with Russia against U.S. but both teams left the tournament before expected. The end result of the tournament was with a victory for Canada of 3-0 because as i mentioned earlier Sweden did not play as expected. “I think it sucks,” said Swedish coach Par Marts. “It’s like kindergarten. We cannot ice the best team today, we cannot ice the best team in this tournament. We should have the right condition to compete with Canada, and we could not do that today.”
The opinions are different for the reason why Sweden lost this easily. One of the reasons might be that the previous game against Finland was not only physically but also psychologically exhausting. The second reason could be because of the absence of their captain. In the end it is on Sweden to figure out what went wrong and to find a way how can they improve their game so they will take gold home next time.

Jason Collins Becomes First Openly Gay NBA Player

On Sunday February 23rd, 2014, Jason Collins signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets. By doing so, Collins has become he first openly gay player in one of the four major sports leagues in the United States.

After having their star big man Brook Lopez injured earlier in the season, the Brooklyn Nets have desperately needed another big man. After failing to acquire Jordan Hill at the trade deadline, and not managing to sign Glen Davis, the Brooklyn Nets have decided to sign Jason Collins. Standing at 7 feet (213 cm), the big man will help bring them a defensive presence inside. Collins helped the Nets get to the NBA finals twice in early 2000, and has currently played the 3rd most minutes in the Nets franchise history.

Later that day, Jason Collins made history by having his NBA season debut with the Brooklyn Nets.

Collins had no points and five fouls but easily did enough little things to declare after the game: "I know I can play in the NBA. I think I showed that tonight." In an interview afterwards, Collins was reluctant to change the focus from the game and his job. He named openly gay athletes and then immediately stated "It's about being an athlete".

Asked his advice for others, Collins said: "Be your true authentic self. Never be afraid or ashamed to be your true authentic self."

Justin Bieber Arrested

Justin Bieber Arrested

The seemingly innocent Justin Bieber arrested on January 23rd 2014. Pop star Justin Bieber arrested in Miami, Florida.  He was arrested for drunk driving and drag racing. Justin drove a rented Lamborghini with speeds of over 100 MPH, and any accident would have been almost a certain death at such high speeds. Justin was charged for resisting arrest without violence, drag racing, and driving under the influence (DUI).

As a policeman said about another policeman as he confronted Justin, “He smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage.” As Justin Bieber later confirmed, he consumed marijuana, prescription drugs, and alcohol before driving. When Bieber was stopped, the police explained that he was not cooperating with the police officer, and was questioning why he was being stopped. When he stepped out of the car, he stopped cooperating any further with the police, which had already arrested him. At first, the police were not sure about drag racing, but then they proved that right. In the end, he was arrested for resisting against the police and the arrest, drag racing, and drunk driving. Soon after his arrest, the police revealed Justin Bieber’s mug shot.

The rented Lamborghini, for $150,000, has a built-in GPS, which tracked Justin’s speed and location at all times, backing up his arrest. Justin reached deadly speeds of 136MPH (around 210 km/hour) which would have led to death if in a crash. In his mug shot, Justin was wearing a red t-shirt, smiling, and his hair spiked up. He even got to jail, but was bailed out soon after.

New Military Cycling World Hour Record Beat by Justyn Cannon

By: Katarina Markovic                                                                                                                2/25/2014

Justyn Canon a very ambitious trainer decided that he was ready to beat the record of 46.595 kilometer of cycling in one hour, the most shocking thing was that he actually was ready.
Justyn Cannon during his record attempt at Newport Velodrome                     A thirty nine year  old man, Justyn Canon, trained for five years. He had trained that much so he would be able to beat the record that was set by Paul Dotchins in the year of 2000. The record was 46.595 kilometers cycled in one hour. Justyn Canon with a lot of effort was able to beat him by 0.625 kilometers. He had trained so hard each day three times a day. He had a personal trainer that would set everything up before he came home from work, so that when he came he wouldn't be distracted by internet or work but only focused on the training.
Once he had finished the hour of cycling he had explained that he was in great pain by saying, "My hips are wrecked, my glutes are shot." Justyn Canon had also said that the first lap is terrible and that the last ten minutes are any better. He had also said that it is all horrible and that he would never do it again, only maybe in a couple of weeks. The bike that he had ridden he had never droven before. He wasn't worried about the technical difficulties. Justyn also didn't have a tactic of how to be able to finish the hour the best but he had just decided to wing it. Besides that he was able to break the record and set a new one which is 47. 220 kilometers..

We Need a Food Revolution

There are many problems going on in the U.S. like weather conditions and so on but there is one major problem that has been going on in the U.S for a really long time period, one problem that is different in many ways and that is potentially worse than the others. Huntington, Western Virginia known as the unhealthiest city in America, were almost half of the adults there are considered obis, one man by the name of Jamie Oliver a British chef has left his family behind in order to try and lead a food revolution in Huntington, Western Virginia.
When Jamie Oliver first arrived in Huntington he knew that he needed to let people know that a change is coming in Huntington and he thought that the best way to do that was to go to the biggest local radio station. Sadly throughout his interview at the radio station it didn’t look like many people were going to agree with him. He knew that he had to start off with the younger kids who were the future adults and what better place to start off than a school. When Jamie First arrived at the school he saw the kids eating pizza for breakfast and chicken nuggets for lunch. Nut that wasn’t the worst part the worst part was how the cooks actually made it. Jamie Oliver was shocked when he asked the kids what this vegetable (Tomato) was because they said that it was a potato.

Jamie was realizing that he was not getting anywhere with his plan to save Huntington, he realized that he needed help with trying to convince the kids to stop eating junk food in general so he called in the parents to the school and showed them what their kids eat at school, and how discussing that all was. Jamie somehow convinces the parents to feed their kids better. But that wasn’t the end of his journey he still had fifty-thousand lives to save.
